About the handout, do you know what it is? Whats the matter?
On October 6, 1961, the Hague Convention aimed at the Elimination of the Requirement for the Legalization of Foreign Public Documents (also known as the Apostille Convention) was held. This International Treaty aims to simplify the authentication process for documents to be used abroad. Hence the importance of the apostille in our documents.
However, not all documents are required to complete the apostille or the convention does not apply. Below I inform those that do not apply:
Documents prepared by diplomatic or consular agents;
Administrative documents directly related to a commercial or customs operation;
Documents to be presented in countries that are not parties to the Hague Convention – in these cases, the legalization process is carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its regional offices in Brazil and Embassies and Consular Offices abroad.
The Convention applies to public documents drawn up and presented in one of the signatory countries. It is considered a public act:
Documents originating from an authority or a dependent official of any jurisdiction in the country, including those originating from the Public Prosecutor's Office, a law clerk or a bailiff;
Administrative documents;
Notary acts;
Official declarations such as registration mentions, visas for a specific date and signature recognition, inserted in acts of a private nature.
I emphasize that this process must still take place in the country of origin and cannot be carried out in Portugal. Tips for documents to be handouts:
academic record (including graduation, if applicable);
wedding certificate;
birth certificate;
PB4 (recommended).
In Brazil, for a document to receive the Apostille certificate, it is enough to take it to one of the notary offices or notary offices in any Brazilian capital.
The Hague Apostille has no expiration date and does not extend the validity of the apostiled documents.

🤓 It's a curiousity...
The word Apostille (in Portuguese) is of French origin, being spelled "Apostille", which comes from the verb "apostiller", which means Annotation. Therefore, despite the current meaning in the Portuguese language that the meaning of a publication has, an additional meaning is that a handout consists of an annotation in the margin of a document or at the end of a letter, for example. In this case, the Apostille is defined as a certificate issued under the terms of the Apostille Convention that authenticates the origin of a Public Document.
