The heart is exposed in the Brotherhood of Lapa, a religious entity that guards the organ. The organ is displayed in the noble hall of the Church of Lapa, in a tempered glass showcase.
The Church of Our Lady of Lapa is a Catholic church located in the city of Porto, Portugal, dedicated to Our Lady of Lapa. The church was built by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Lapa, established in 1755, and is part of a built set that includes the cemetery of Lapa, the primary school of the Brotherhood and the Hospital of the Brotherhood of Lapa. In the main chapel is buried the heart of King Pedro IV of Portugal, donated in a will to the brotherhood.
The Brotherhood
The brotherhood was founded in the 18th century, dating its first statutes from the year 1757. It emerged as a religious institution but, soon, its field of intervention extended beyond the functions of worship. From the mid-eighteenth century to the beginning of the 20th century, we witnessed the realisation of the main dreams of its founder the Brazilian Father Ângelo Sequeira (São Paulo, 1707 - Rio de Janeiro, 1776), who in his book Botica Preciosa, and Thesouro Precioso da Lapa confessed to wanting to find all the remedies This chronological beacon thus includes the affirmation of the extinct Seminary-College of Lapa, the construction of the cemetery of the Brotherhood, the completion of the works of the Church and, later, the construction of the Hospital.
