What do you understand the meaning of the word Museum? Do you have the habit or the curiosity to go? These are places that cannot be avoided from going from the cultural heritage of the city of Lisbon. How about we go visit them?
Several of the city's museums and cultural spaces have a lively cultural agenda and hide pleasant cafeterias, shops and even concert halls. You can access the Cultural Heritage website and visualise the huge list of museums. I've already visited some. I hope I have managed to sharpen the desire to enter these spaces. I was excited to visit new museums! I will mention below a list of some museums, some well known, others that will be a pleasant surprise and discovery. But first, a challenge, do you know how many museums there are in Portugal?
The Portuguese Museum Network is composed of the 146 museums that currently integrate it. The richness of its universe lies in the diversity of guardianships, collections, spaces and facilities, educational and cultural activities, models of relationship with communities and management systems.
Sharing tips... Did you know that on Sundays there are museums that give free access? Museums managed by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage have free admission on Sundays and holidays from opening time to 2 pm. The DGPC is in charge of the direct management of 23 monuments and museums, including 5 monuments inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list and 15 national museums. But these are not only the free museums, there are other museums with free admissions at some specific times or days. I share here some museums that can be visited for free in Portugal.
