How to make a CV for Portugal

In recent years, Portugal - especially the regions of Porto and Lisbon - has become increasingly attractive to professionals from all areas and from all countries. Whether they are Portuguese, Brazilian, French or British citizens, the desire to work in the Iberian country is shared by everyone.

The positions for Portugal are very desired and competitive, which means that getting the job of your dreams requires conquering recruiters at first sight. And the best way to stand out is through an amazing resume.

Thinking about it, we asked our team of Effitalents recruiters what are the 5 best tips to impress with your CV.

1. Be succinct and direct

Normally, one page (maximum two) is enough for recruiters to realise that your profile is ideal for that vacancy. Putting a lot of information and extending your resume beyond two pages can delay the selection process and become a point against you.

2. Tell us who you are

Right in the first two to three lines of the CV (yes, before everything else) make a brief introduction with who you are, what you do and what vacancy you applied for.

3. Adapt!

All candidates are unique, as well as all opportunities. You may have the qualifications for many vacancies, so keep only those that are relevant to that specific position you are applying for.

4. Creates a section for personal information

Save a space to put your mobile number, email and other links such as your portfolio or LinkedIn.

5. A trip to the past

Your CV should be structured in such a way as to show your latest activities and experiences. Prioritise placing the "works" section above the "education" section for this reason.

We want to know what you've been doing, not what you did 5 years ago.

In addition to these 5 tips, our team gathered some points and distributed them into two categories: "noes" and "maybe".

The no:

  • Do not send your CV without checking the spelling

  • Don't lie about your skills with other languages

  • Do not put absolutely all your knowledge on the CV, only those relevant to the vacancy

The maybe:

  • Photos are not needed in the resume, but if you want try using a photo that has a neutral background (and smile!)

  • You can put your soft-skills, but only at the end of your resume so that they do not occupy the space of the hard-skills required by the vacancy

  • Some vacancies will ask for levels of knowledge in English, so for these send an English version of your CV to prove your skills

  • You can use the europass to make your CV, but you will be even more prominent if you make a customised one!

With these tips, you will ensure an excellent first impression with recruiters!
