This statue is located in Praça Duque da Terceira in Lisbon, near Cais do Sodré.
The statue was created in 1860 and inaugurated in 1877. It commemorates the landing of constitutional and liberal troops, commanded by the Duke of Terceira, in Lisbon.
It is a bronze statue created by José Simões de Almeida (uncle) and António Gaspar.
The statue represents António José de Sousa Meneses Severim de Noronha. He was an important Portuguese general and statesman, born in Lisbon in 1792 and died in 1860.
One of the most important figures of his time, both politically and militarily, he was the Marquis of Vila Flor, Duke of Terceira, captain-general of the Azores, commander-in-chief of the Portuguese Army, State councilor, President of the Council of Ministers.
