We decided to live in Lisbon

Several questions arise when we think about changing our lives and living in another country. But, first of all, what we need to know is the real reason for this change: Study? Work? Quality of life?

Mine, initially, was a simple change, which we call immigration in search of quality of life and security. But analyzing the facts and the opportunity itself, my husband and I chose to study applying for a Student Visa. It would be a simple change with an easy visa. If we really adapt to the country, we would try the permanent visa at another time. But there is still the possibility of changing the type of visa, as we have not really decided how and when we will go.

And the list of questions is only increasing.….

  • Which school for our daughter?

  • What course will husband take?

  • What course will I take? I have difficulty in English so that would be my focus. But English in Portugal? And a college degree?! Which one? Could you do both!?

  • We want to have quality of life, so we intend to live in a place where we would have easy access to everything. Where would this place be?

  • How to reconcile our daughter's school with our study routine?

  • Will we have time for a job? How to work? At where? Do I have the necessary skills?

  • Documentation? How to get? What to do? What do you need? Visa? What type?

Well, those were the initial doubts… so I started researching the courses of our interests… and based on the schools… I researched the theoretically ideal place for us to reside, and with that the school for our daughter. After these decisions, we will research bureaucracies, I mean, information about the necessary documents. Initially and theoretically, documents for the student visa. Emphasizing that we have not yet decided if this will be our type of visa.

Many are excited about the opportunity to live in another country, but do not reflect on the impact on life of this change. They act on impulse and without proper planning, the change does not work and return to the country of origin, blaming the country in which they chose. I leave here registered a little of the reflections in which I do with my husband.

Emphasizing this importance, do you know the meaning of the word MIGRATION? Migration is the movement of individuals within a geographical space, either temporarily or permanently. These migratory flows can be triggered by various reasons: economic, cultural, religious, political and natural (droughts, earthquakes, floods, etc.). With that we have to keep in mind that if we are choosing a new country, it means that we will have to learn and adapt to new cultures, new lifestyles, new rules, new friends, new experiences, literally new everything! We will have to start a new life continuing our existence and knowledge already acquired. We will have to leave our bad habits behind. And we have to move forward willing to conquer a new space in the new life, and preferably with the participation and support of the family.

And do you want to change country? Ever wondered why? Have you made these reflections?

Hope so! And I also hope I helped you with our reflections!

I wish you an excellent planning.

Until later!
