CULTURE IN LISBON | Parties in April 2023

Culture in Lisbon annually celebrates the 25th of April and Freedom with an unprecedented cultural program accessible to everyone. The April Festivities extend through the city's streets and cultural facilities, offering a diversity of events and activities.

On April 24th, at Terreiro do Paço, the most emblematic outdoor concert hall in Lisbon, musician Vitorino brings us the project Abril em Flor. Built from scratch and with artistic direction by António Miguel Guimarães, this show mixes music, poetry and drawing, bringing together dozens of artists: live, Mafalda Veiga, Márcia, Luís Trigacheiro, Zeca Medeiros and the Cantadeiras and Cantadores do Redondo, who give voice to songs from the period of resistance to the dictatorship; and on video, Aldina Duarte, Capicua, Carlão and Tim, who will recite the poetry of Manuel Alegre, Sophia de Mello Breyner, Jonas Negalha and Ruy Belo.

On April 25th, and already a tradition, the Town Hall is open from 10am to 6pm, challenging everyone to discover the architecture and history of this neoclassical style building.

During this month, there will also be space to appreciate the 25 de Abril Mural created by the artists of the Estúdio Boa Hora collective, in Belém, and the April Posters by illustrator Mantraste at the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum.

The April Festivities are made up of other music, readings, conversations, routes, visits and workshops. Proposals for all ages, mostly free entry, which are divided between the street and the municipal and cultural spaces managed by the Lisbon City Council and the EGEAC.
