What is the Stayaway Covid app?
It is the official application for notification of exposure to COVID-19 in Portugal. Developed for use on mobile phones with the aim of assisting the country in tracking COVID-19. The application allows, in a simple and secure way, that each one of us is informed about risk exposures to the disease, through the monitoring of recent contacts.
To date, the Stayaway Covid app has been downloaded by over 1 million people. Amazing, right?!
You can also visit the application's website. Very intuitive, it explains well the 3 (three) steps that appear in the app, in which we will receive notifications. Are they:
1. Absence of record of high risk of contagion
Not registering close contacts with a high risk of contagion with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, the application informs us exactly about that with the date of the last assessment.
2. High risk of contagion alert
If someone we were dangerously close to in the last 14 days is diagnosed with COVID-19 and informs the STAYAWAY COVID system, the application immediately alerts us of the risk suggesting that we isolate ourselves and contact the SNS 24 Line (808 24 24 24).
3. After diagnosis of COVID-19
In case we contract COVID-19, with the diagnosis we will receive a numerical code that will allow us, anonymously and through the application, to inform the STAYAWAY COVID system. It is this act that allows the system to safely and timely alert all those we may have infected, even before they have had any symptoms. Nobody's identity is ever revealed to anyone.
And how does the app work?!
Installation is voluntary and the system is very simple.
Each of the devices with active surveillance will anonymously record close encounters with other devices with the app activated; if one of the owners of these mobile phones tests positive and enters the code given by the SNS in the app, whoever was nearby will be notified.
We downloaded this application to our mobile phone, and recorded everything to share with you how it works. However, it is important to emphasize that be sure to follow the guidelines of the SNS and the General Directorate of Health.
