Usually when we move from country or city, depending on where we are coming from, we leave aside certain cares that we don't normally have. It is important that we know what security precautions we must take where we are going.
The tips that I will share are as good for those who are going to spend a short season as they are for those who are going to live in Portugal. I would say it is also true wherever you go.
1st tip: Put on a safety chain
You know those chains that are on the door, where we can lock them?! So, if possible, put them so you can use them whenever you have to open the door to strangers.
2nd tip: Always check who is at the door
As there are no doormen in most buildings in Portugal, it is important to check whenever possible who is knocking on your door. Hence the importance of having the safety chain.
3rd tip: Do not provide information
Be careful when sharing your personal, banking or financial information with strangers.
4th tip: Don't sign papers
Do not sign papers without reading them first and, if in doubt, ask someone you trust for help. This is especially true for those staying in apartments rented (rented) by Airbnb. Extra care never hurts.
5th tip: Never give money
Never hand money to a stranger. Even if he promises you advantages or says he's going to give you what you want.
6th tip: Do not accept orders
Do not accept orders without first confirming with the recipient. Especially if cash is required in return. This care deserves attention, especially for those who tend to rent (rent) apartments/houses per season.
7th tip: Never do business over the phone/mobile
Be careful with incoming calls, do not do business on these calls. Unless the call left for you. The chances of you getting ripped off in these calls are quite considerable. So be careful!
In addition to this tip, I would say to you to check the information according to the situation with family, trusted friends, consumer protection associations or the Police, before closing any business offered over the phone or at your door.
8th tip: Call the police
If they contact you or knock on your door and tell you that they belong to services (water, electricity, television, social security, etc.) that have not requested any intervention, do not hesitate to call the police. To facilitate, write down the contact GNR - 213 217 000.
9th tip: Check if you turned with the key
We know that when we close the door, it doesn't open from the outside. But what not everyone knows is that when we don't go around with the key in the door lock, we make it easier for us to be cheated in the residence. That is why it is important that even when we leave or enter the house, we must go around with a key.
10th tip: Check windows
Whenever we leave the house, we must check that we have closed all the windows correctly. Well, malicious “spider man” may appear.
