Lisbon Airport has a rich and fascinating history. Founded in 1942, it was initially known as Portela de Sacavém Airport, due to its location in the Portela area of Lisbon. Since then, it has undergone several expansions and modernizations to meet the growing demand for passengers. In 2016, it was renamed in honor of Humberto Delgado, an important figure in Portuguese political history.

Lisbon Airport is located just seven kilometers from the center of Lisbon, which makes it easily accessible from the city. In addition, it is well served by a public transport network, including subway, buses and taxis, which offer an efficient connection to the city center and other areas of the Lisbon metropolitan region.
