Research from there, think from here, decide at some point, and for now, we opted for the D7 visa. But that's not to say that we will really choose this one. As I said in other posts, we are researching, planning, preparing for our change. For now, this will be our kind of visa! And detail, it allows us to work in Portugal legally. The D7 visa is for people living on income, regardless of age and retirees who have sufficient income to stay in Portugal. The income considered for this visa includes: retirement, pensions, rented real estate, money invested, investments. For more information about the necessary documents, visit our post on steps required for the D7 visa.
We ask ourselves, but what is necessary in financial terms? What would that be like?
It is necessary to prove that there are monthly means of subsistence in the following values according to the law:
1st adult - 100% of the current minimum wage.
2nd adult - 50% of the current minimum wage.
Each child - 30% of the current minimum wage.
To get safer and have more chances, the ideal would be to have good savings plus a guaranteed/proven monthly income. In this way it is very likely to have the visa accepted and can also have a good quality of life in Portugal. The time varies according to which Consulate of Portugal you request, legally it cannot take more than 60 days. The residence visa is extendible to spouse, children up to 18 years of age and parents over 65 years of age.
People look how interesting, the visa has an initial validity of 1 year, then it is renewed twice in a row for a period of 2 years each. After 6 years of confirmed residence in Portugal you have the right to apply for Portuguese nationality, and you now have a European passport and no longer need a visa to reside in the country. But pay attention! Never staying outside the country for more than 6 months.
The residence visa for Portugal for foreigners living on income is provided, in general terms, in Article 58(1) of Law No. 23/2007 of 4 July, and specifically in Article 24(d) of Regulatory Decree No. 84/2007 of 5 November.
I suggest you research well before deciding which type of visa you will apply for. Once that's decided, research well on the necessary documentation, and if possible search YouTube for videos of people who have applied for the type of visa chosen by you, so you can prepare for possible mistakes, preventing yourself not to make them as well. See you later!
