The Council of Ministers approved on Wednesday diplomas aimed at facilitating the mobility of workers between the Member States of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Kingdom of Morocco. Among the planned measures are the simplification in the issuance of visas and the creation of a new typology for job search.
Regarding the agreements with the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), the minister said that "for the citizen covered by the CPLP agreement who is already in national territory, it is provided for the possibility of applying for a temporary residence permit in national territory, and it is also provided that holders of the temporary stay visa, or who have legally entered national territory, can apply for the CPLP residence permit". Ana Catarina Mendes reported that it will also be "facilitated to obtain a residence visa for the attendance of a study program in higher education".
"In order to promote safe migration (...), a new type of visa is created, specifically the visa for the search for work, thus enabling nationals of foreign states entering Portuguese territory who come looking for work for a period of 120 days, extended to another 60 days, totalling 180 days," explained Ana Catarina Mendes.
“Decree-Law amending the Highway Code in order to enable, in certain cases, the driving of motor vehicles by holders of driving licences issued by CPLP and OECD Member States, exempting the exchange of driving licences on an equal footing with holders of driving licences issued by Member States of the European Union”, according to the Executive's statement.
