Organising the ideas and documents a little, I researched in some schools in Portugal what documents would be needed for our daughter enrolment. But before we talk about the documents we need to understand how school equivalence works. My daughter is currently studying in the first year of elementary school. Do we use this same name in Portugal?! Let's look at the table below:
The school year in Portugal begins in September. So until then our daughter will be 7 years old, then she will start the 2nd year of elementary school, that is, it is equivalent to the 2nd year of the 1st cycle of Basic Education of Portugal.
After deciding where we will live, we must go to the Parish Council to make sure that this school grouping belongs to the board in which we are residing. One of the parents will be appointed as in charge of Education, he/she will be responsible for enrolment and everything related to the school. After the board informs which schools belong to the board, you go to the school secretariat for information on vacancies and enrolment. The documents below that we will list are based on the school Vasco da Gama Basic School, located in the Parque das Nações, Where we initially intend to live. However, we still haven't really decided if it will be our choice.
Documents to be submitted / Delivered at the time of application for registration for the 1st Cycle
Students
Duly completed registration form;
1 Pass-type photograph;
Citizen Card/Birth Seat/Passport;
Tax identification card;
Document issued by the Tax Authority proving data on household composition;
Document proving that you are a beneficiary of the social benefit of family allowance;
Photocopy of User Card + NISS (Social Security Document indicating NISS), in case you do not have a Citizen Card;
Photocopy of updated Individual Health Bulletin (Vaccines);
Legal guardian
Citizen Card/Identity Card/Residence Permit/Updated Passport;
Photocopy of the Tax Identification Card (in case the identification document is not the Citizen Card);
Document, issued by the Tax Authority, proof of household and permanent residence;
If it is not possible to deliver the document referred to in the previous paragraph, a photocopy of two documents proving residence (from the period corresponding to the enrolment of this year) must be delivered, among the following:
Water invoice (in the name of the Guardian);
Electricity invoice (in the name of the Guardian);
Gas invoice (in the name of the Guardian);
Lease contract, dated earlier than April 15 of this year, which contains the duration of the same (on behalf of the Education Officer);
IRS settlement note.
Document proving the place where the professional activity is exercised (provided that it is located in the area of influence of the intended educational and teaching establishment) proving that the worker has been exercising his activity, in this place, since the date prior to April 15 of this year - certified declaration issued by the employer - "Private documents are held by authenticated, when confirmed by the parties
Document proving that parents are minor students (if applicable).
But beware, it is important that before leaving Brazil we do the Hague Apostille in School History, Birth Certificate and update the vaccine card, as these will be of insistible importance. As for the Vaccine Card there is no need for apostille, however we must go to the health unit of the parish in which we live to enrol the child in the unit and so that the vaccine card is replaced/renewed by the Vaccine Booklet of Portugal. Do not forget to ask the health centre for a certificate of the booklet, which should state that the child is on days with the vaccines. This certificate we will present at the time of enrolment.
I emphasise whenever in doubt, look for the secretariat of the selected school for further clarification. The requested documents and delivery times vary according to each school.
