Steps required for the D7 Visa

Residence visa for retirees or income holders

The D7 visa applies to retirees or holders of their own income (movable or immovable property, intellectual property or financial investments) who wish to reside in Portugal. Those who apply for this visa may enjoy the status of non-habitual residents and thus be exempt from taxation on such income or pensions obtained outside Portugal, provided that they have already been taxed in their country of origin. We chose this visa option because we have a company in Brazil and have how to prove enough income to live in Portugal. Meanwhile, we are open to other options. Now take your research block and write down the necessary documents below:

Statement by himself: Declaration signed by the applicant, specifying the reason for the visa application, the period he intends to stay in Portugal, the place of accommodation and indication of references in Portugal (name, address and telephone number of family and/or friends), if applicable;

Proof of livelihoods: Proof of income that allows residence in national territory, guaranteed for a period not less than 12 months, the proof of which must be provided by the following means:

  • In the case of a retired foreign citizen, through a document proving retirement, as well as the guarantee of their receipt or availability of other income in Portugal;

  • In both cases, present a copy of the last income tax return, proving the moveable or immovable property you own, as well as the availability of these resources in Portugal.

Accommodation: Proof of accommodation in Portugal. Accommodation can be proven by presenting one of the following items:

  • Proof of acquisition or rental of housing in Portugal;

  • Invitation letter made by a citizen who legally resides in Portugal, saying that he will host him. In this case, the declaration must be accompanied by a photocopy of the identity of the person inviting;

  • Proof of hotel reservation for a minimum period of one week.

International medical travel insurance: International medical travel insurance, valid for the period you will stay in Portugal. The insurance policy should include repatriation coverage for medical reasons, urgent need for medical attention and emergency hospital treatment. Private health insurance can be replaced by PB4, if the applicant is a beneficiary of the INSS.

Criminal record certificate: The Brazilian criminal record certificate to be presented is the one issued by the website of the Federal Police of Brazil. To get it, click here;

Photographs: Two recent 3×4 colour photographs.

Passports:

  • Simple copy of the passport (only identification pages and sheets used);

  • The passport must be valid for more than 3 (three) months, after the validity of the visa.

  • Don't send the original passport yet. Give it to the employee only when you are summoned.

SEF Authorisation: Authorization for the Foreigners and Borders Service to consult the applicant's Portuguese criminal record, except for children under 16 years of age.

Declaration: Declaration of knowledge of the fact that you should not travel to Portugal without a proper visa;

Declaration: Applicant's declaration agreeing to receive the passport by mail at his residence OR, if you wish to withdraw your visa at the Vice-Consulates of Curitiba or Porto Alegre, you must fulfil the respective application;

Simple copy of the ID card: (RG for Brazilians and RNE for foreigners. In this case the validity must be longer than the end of the visa application in 90 days);

Copy of the paid bank slip: If married, you must send a certified copy of the marriage certificate. If you have children, you must send certified copies of birth certificates. Be aware of the issuance of this slip, only pay the slip if you have all the requested documents and if it is really the entry into the order at this Consulate General. After the application is received, there is no possibility of refunding any amount, either by rejection or by withdrawal of the applicant.

After you gather all the above documents, visit the website of the Consulate of Portugal to fill out the Visa Application Form. Fill it out in full and submit the request. Receive the completed form and then print it and paste a photo of yourself.

Attention: In item 25 of the form (duration of stay), fill in 90 (ninety) days. The deadline will be changed after the interview (otherwise it will generate an error). Once you have ordered your order, issue the bank slip (soon thereafter, on the same day) and pay it before expiration. If you do not proceed strictly in this way, the process will be automatically cancelled.

Attention: If you have already gathered all the documents necessary for the instruction of your visa application, know the shipping instructions and prices clicking here.

The above information was found on the website Consulate of Portugal in São Paulo. You can also find such information. Remembering that they can change at any time. So be sure to consult the Consulate.
