We decided to spend the turn of the year from 2018 to 2019 at Terreiro do Paço in Lisbon. Well, what to expect?! We read several tips about what to worry about, where to stay, reservations… In our case, we decided to take a risk and simply go!
We decided to spend the turn of the year from 2018 to 2019 at Terreiro do Paço in Lisbon. Well, what to expect?! We read several tips about what to worry about, where to stay, reservations… In our case, we decided to take a risk and simply go!
We took the metro from Santa Apolónia station to Restauradores station. And we enjoyed the tour with a walk to Terreiro do Paço.
We arrived early so it was even possible to decide where we would stay. Nothing close to the stage, after all I'm little and I don't like crowds. And to be more practical, we chose to stay close to the food and beverage kiosks.
Our Bella stayed at home with her grandparents, we decided just me and my husband to go to Terreiro do Paço. To get there, we went through a quick search. All very organized our views. Arriving at Terreiro, the restaurants were all full, but not bad, as it was not our intention to stay in one. However, beware, whoever wants to spend the turning point in these restaurants, make your reservations. The chances of getting a seat at these restaurants on New Year's Eve are slim. If you want to try your luck, pray for her! (laughs) But don't get discouraged, at some points you'll find kiosks selling drinks and food.
Positive points we found is the fact that it is organized and due to the large number of people, it doesn't feel very cold, many chemical toilets. The negatives, a lot of time is wasted in the huge lines to buy food and drink, in addition to the lines to use the chemical toilets.
If you ask us if we would spend another year there, I'm sure not to. Unless in other circumstances we had booked a restaurant, a car to take us back (which would still have been a bad thing, as the traffic was crazy!).
And what to expect from the party?! Nothing compared to Brazil. The “animation” of the well-contained people, the countdown (if there was, I didn't hear!). At the end of the article I will leave a video at the time of the fireworks, you will understand what I am saying. But it is noteworthy that I am not talking about this with negativity, on the contrary, it is very much our style. We don't like bustle too much. The party ended I believe 1:00 in the morning. After the New Year, we were unable to get transport back to the house. Result we returned on foot. We tried so hard to get an Uber that we discharged a cell phone. Luckily I had a little charge so we could make the shortest journey with the help of the GPS. However, we went up and down so many hills! The image on the side shows the route we took, and which we certainly didn't do in 18 minutes, as shown on the map. We tried sometimes to change the route to escape the slopes in vain!
And when we arrived at Miradouro da Graça, we realized that we could have passed the turn there, with a fantastic view as well as at Terreiro do Paço, and be closer to home.
And what tip would I give about a place for New Year's Eve?! Can I give you some suggestions…
Pass the turn at the Miradouro da Graça. You can certainly see several fireworks, the place is much quieter than in Terreiro do Paço. However, perhaps the downside is the use of the bathroom. Honestly in this regard, I don't know how it would be!
In the Garden Amália Rodrigues. Interesting as much as the Viewpoint. I read good references from the turn of the year there. Maybe in the next opportunity this will be one of the options where we will go!
Another interesting and very different option is to enjoy New Year's Eve on a private boat trip with dinner on the Tagus River. You can search for this feat through the website www.sailinglovers.pt. You will be able to see the fireworks in a comfortable and private way, in addition to the beautiful view you will have. But remember to wear a warm, comfortable outfit.
